Lessons Learned Through The Commissioning Lens – Benefits of a Cold Eyes Review

Are you extracting the most value from your commissioning and start-up execution plan? Early development of the projects’ transition from bulk construction to system based turnover can significantly affect the timelines to wet commissioning and initial start-up. Think of your commissioning strategy as a relay race. Being part of a team doesn’t just mean knowing how to do your part – you have to know what your teammates are doing; when you need to speed up or slow down, when to hold the baton and when to pass it along.

The cold eyes review will focus on identifying any potential gaps or risk within the current commissioning playbook and execution strategy. The purpose is to investigate & quantify progress against current processes related to CSU effort. A scorecard is used as a guide to review each process and rank them based upon best practices.  This document is known as the Services Scorecard.

The review involves two key parts:

1. Review of supplied project documentation, and

2. On-site audit with two focuses:

1. 1. Procedural review

1. 2. Functional verification

The reviews are focused as a set of “services” which are typical in the development of a commissioning plan.

One of the key elements to drive the desired outcomes of this exercise is to ensure we provide experienced Commissioning resources to support the extraction of the data to support the current situation and knowledge to perform an analysis to guide the recommendations of our findings.
